Passed? Your theory pass is valid for 1.5 years. Failed? You can book again quickly, usually within a day.

If you pass
A theory pass for car, motorcycle or moped is valid for 1.5 years (18 months), counted from the day you pass. You need to pass your practical exam within that time.
Example: passed on 9 April 2026? Then your pass is valid up to and including 8 October 2027.
You can see the exact date in Mijn CBR, under your exams and tests.
Is your pass about to expire?
If you do not pass your practical exam in time, you have to take the theory exam again. You can do that from 3 months before your pass expires.
If you fail
Frustrating, but you can try again soon. Once your result has been processed you can book a new exam. That happens within 24 hours of the exam: once the result form arrives by email, you can book through Mijn CBR or your driving school.
You do not need to authorise your driving school again. Every attempt is booked and paid for separately.
Before you try again
- Look at which topics you found hard and practise those first.
- Take a few timed mock exams, so you know your score holds up.
- Read the explanation for every mistake. It is the rule that matters, not remembering the answer.
